Early Years Foundation Stage
At St James' Primary School, we aim to ensure all children are supported to achieve the five outcomes of Every Child Matters – being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving economic well-being. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum which inspires each child and challenges them to be the best they can be whilst ensuring a safe, supportive and stimulating environment. Our Early Years provision allows children to learn in a variety of environments including our Early Years area, our on-site Forest School and even through trips to the local parks!
The EYFS curriculum at St James' Primary School is designed to ensure the development of the knowledge, skills and understanding set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. Our learning journey follows half termly topics, and also incorporates opportunities for children to explore their own interests. At the end of Reception, children are assessed against the Early Learning Goals as set out in the EYFS Framework.
At St James' we value the transition process. We visit the children at both their Pre-School and home prior to starting school, as well as inviting parents and children in to school for 'stay and play' sessions. The following are comments made by parents:
We have been made to feel very welcome. There is a lovely atmosphere in the school and any questions or concerns have been answered and dealt with promptly
Lots of thought given to child welfare and settling in.
Our daughter had settled very well and is very excited to come into school each day. Thank you for helping to make ‘starting school’ a smooth transition
You all do a wonderful job of welcoming and settling in the children. Please do pass our thanks on to the entire staff team. The parents value you all so much. Thank you!
We are really happy with how this has all worked and S has settled really well and super quickly, thanks to the staff’s approach and how everything has been structured!
