The following all received Golden Awards this week. In Year 3: Neil D, for excellent descriptive sentences for your setting description. Deer Class were swimming. In Year 4: Ashley, for her fantastic performance of her ocean poem and Daniel S, for great effort in class and super presentation of his work. Thank you for your help with Russian this week: Stoat Class were swimming. In Year 5: Harsha, for excellent questions asked and answers given about Victorian children: Charlie H, for exceptional writing in English and Thomas K, for his effort and hard work in all subjects – keep up the great work. IN Year 6: George S, for showing increased maturity, both in his learning and in his willingness to address issues sensibly: Elsie, for her positive mindset, making great strides in her confidence in maths and excellent learning behaviour and Oscar P, for his enthusiasm and huge smile that he brings to the classroom.
Congratulations to Fox Class, this week’s winners of the ‘Shell Award’. They will receive some additional free-time at the end of the week. All Year 3will be able to go on the bank at break and lunchtime on Friday.
Accelerated Reader Challenge
Congratulations to Wilf, in Year 6who has read the most words – 781,888: Robin, in Year 3, has achieved the most quizzes with 100% and Kestrel Class, Year 6, have read the most words as a class – 3,304,493
Times Tables Rock Stars Challenge
Maths challenge across KS2, with a display on the top corridor, with two challenges for all pupils to take part in. Speed at answering questions, an average across the class – Osprey Class. The class with the highest average number of points per pupil was also Osprey Class.
On Thursday 14th November the St James Basketball Team played in a tournament at Skinners Grammar School. The first match was against St. Matthews and we won 4-0. The next game was against Lamberhurst, our defence was very good; the final score was 26-3 to us. We then played Southborough, Fran scored lots of baskets and we won 12-1. Our last game in the group stage was against Broadwater Down, Ollie shot lots of baskets and the final score was 24-0. The result took us through to the semi-finals, we played Claremont, Lydia and Charlotte were great in defence and we won 14-6. In the final, we played Staplehurst, Nathan and Ollie scored; unfortunately, we had a goal disallowed. When the final went the score was 6-7, it had been a very close match and we finished runners-up. Many congratulations to Charlotte, Year 5, who has been selected to play for cricket for the Kent U11 team, she is one of only 20 to have been selected from the whole of Kent. She starts training with the team on Sundays.
Football v Southborough
On Wednesday 20th November the Football A Team played a match against Southborough. We started well, with Alfie S crossing the ball in and Alfie L hitting the post, shortly after this, Oliver scored from a corner. They attacked, but Omari cleared the ball from the goal line. In the second we scored again, twice. The final score was 3-0 to us. Thank you to Mr Hodges and the parents for supporting us. Team: Omari, Alfie L, Alfie S, Ollie, Theo, Oliver D, Jonathan & Ozzi. Girls Football v Claremont
On Friday 15th November, St James’ Girls Football Team played against Claremont. When the match started, they scored the first goal, but a few minutes later we scored 2 goals and at half time the score was 2-1. In the second half we came back strong and scored 2 more goals and in the final minutes got a 5th goal. The final score was 5-1 to us. Summer Reading Challenge
Congratulations to Faith, in Year 3, who gained a medal for completing the local summer reading challenge, reading more than 12 chapter books over the summer holidays.
Year 5 Netball A & B Teams
On Monday 18th November the Netball A Team went to Walthamstow Hall in Sevenoaks to play a match. We had the first centre, however, they were very good and scored 5 goals. They continued to play really well and the final score was 16-2 to them. Thank you to Miss Gibson and Mrs Dragon for coaching us and extra special thanks to Mrs Simkins for driving us there. We all had a great time.
B Team report – In the first quarter, they scored 2 goals. Sophia did really well to intercept the ball several times. They continued to play well and score. The final score was 6-1 to them. Thank you Miss Gibson for coaching us, we all had a great time.
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the sponsored bounce yesterday; the whole school managed to achieve an incredible 71,994 bounces. Prizes were awarded to the member of each class who achieved the highest number of bounces in their class. There was also a prize for determination and enthusiasm.
